8 HOURS A MONTH COULD CHANGE SOMEONE’S LIFE

You are aware of the difficulties facing young adults today. Poor decisions made while young often result in years of rebuilding one’s life. Do you ever wonder what you could contribute to change the course of at risk youths? Through positive relationships with caring and non-judgmental adults a child can redirect their energy toward a productive and rewarding future.

A simple walk at Lake Logan, a picnic, a run/walk session around the Fair Grounds track, a phone call to ask how about school, volunteering to assist in commodities distribution, carving a pumpkin, fishing, going to a movie, attending musical performances, sharing time and maybe a few laughs can all result in changing someone’s outlook on the future.

Do you have eight hours a month to make a difference in a young person’s life?
Hocking County WIA Youth and Hocking County Juvenile Court are seeking mentoring adults who are supportive, caring, non-judgmental role models for youth ages 14-21.

The goals of this mentoring project are to provide guidance to at-risk youths, advocacy, emotional support, increase a positive approach to education, improve school attendance, performance and retention, lower risk of drug use, increase self esteem, reduce risk of teen pregnancy, promote personal and social responsibility, and develop a sense of community.

Applicants need to be willing to volunteer at least eight hours a month, attend on-going trainings and be able to make a one-year commitment. Applicants need to be approved through the application process, which includes an interview, drug screening, background check and orientation.
